A report on the 2019 Balsa Brain Quiz

First and foremost the Southern Area BMFA committee would like to thank the Firebirds for making it possible to once again use the facilities of the Hamble Social club, a perfect venue to run the annual Balsa Brain Quiz. It’s hard to believe that this year marks the 35th running of the event, as can be seen by the number of names on the trophy.

Eight teams entered on the night and it was closely fought over the five rounds run by quiz-master Terry. First of all three rounds were run and then a break for the buffet, and excellent it was too, see photo’. The final two rounds saw the completion of the Quiz part of the evening. It was then left for Tony to add up the scores to determine the final winner

Dave receiving the presentation

Once the quiz was over the raffle took place for a really good selection of prizes largely supplied by John Hook. Finally the Southern Area Committee annually make a special presentation to someone who has gone beyond the any normal expectation for the good of aero-modelling and the general hobby, this year the well deserving candidate was David Tappin.

Following the initial introduction by Tony Butterworth, Peter Willis, who new Dave very well, then gave a more detailed account of all of his activities on behalf of the hobby as a whole.

The Winning Team

All agreed it was a good evening and we await the 36th running of the event in 2020.

Next year there is a possibility that we may move the event to a venue further North to allow some other teams to enter with a little less travelling, but this venue will be a hard act to follow.

Congratulations to the Southampton MAC for once again winning the trophy.
